What do you need to become an AUSTSWIM Presenter?

  • Enthusiasm and the ability to share your passion for everything aquatic and inspire new candidates 
  • Hold a current AUSTSWIM Teacher of Swimming and Water Safety accreditation for a minimum of 2 years 
  • Hold at least one other AUSTSWIM accreditation, such as AUSTSWIM Teacher of Infant and Preschool Aquatics
  • Be able to demonstrate current industry skills
  • Be able to demonstrate current knowledge and skills in Vocational and Educational Training (VET)
  • Hold a Certificate TAE40116 Training and Assessment (Australia only)/Certificate in Adult and Tertiary Teaching - Level 4 (NZ only)
  • Current CPR and WWCC 

Please read the below information carefully before applying to become an AUSTSWIM Assessor.

It is recommended that you undertake the Presenter of Teacher of Swimming and Water Safety (TSW) training  initially because:         

  • It is the initial course that a trainee swimming teacher must perform – courses are run more frequently, meaning there is more work available for presenters of this course. 
  • The Presenter of Teacher of Swimming and Water Safety  training acts as a good building block for all other AUSTSWIM training. Gaining this experience first will develop vital skills and knowledge that you can pass on to candidates.
  • Current AUSTSWIM Teacher of Swimming and Water Safety accreditation 
  • At least two years of school-aged swimming teaching experience, encompassing a minimum of 300 hours (with a range of age, ability and class sizes) 
  • Be able to demonstrate current industry skills 
  • Be able to demonstrate current knowledge and skills in Vocational and Educational Training (VET) 

You must also hold one of the following credentials: 

  • TAE40116 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment or its successor
  • TAE40110 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment

In addition to one of:

  • TAELLN411 Address adult language, literacy and numeracy skills  or  its successor
  • TAELLN401A Address adult language, literacy and numeracy skills 

As well as one of:

  • TAEASS502 Design and develop assessment tools or  its successor
  • TAEASS502A Design and develop assessment tools
  • TAEASS502B Design and develop assessment tools

The AUSTSWIM Presenter of Teacher of Swimming and Water Safety accreditation is designed to provide you with the knowledge and skills necessary for the delivery and assessment of the AUSTSWIM Teacher of Swimming and Water Safety course. The course consists of a minimum of two days’ attendance, which will include theory and practical components, as well as a combination of assessments, take-home assignments, observation, questioning, role-play and on-the-job training hours.

Pay for presenters varies between AUSTSWIM course providers, so please contact your course provider for more details.

Automatic enrolment into a course should not be expected. When a course is advertised, the applicant will be asked to send a full resume, answer the Key Selection Criteria and provide a reference from an aquatic specialist. In some instances, you may be required to attend an interview to establish course suitability.

Presenter training courses are offered when there is seen to be a lack of available presenters within a certain area. Therefore, there is not a set schedule for each state.
