AUSTSWIM Teach-out and Training Package Changes

Training Packages are subject to updates to ensure they align with industry standards and regulatory requirements. The Sport, Aquatics and Recreation training package is delivered by several Registered Training Organisations (RTOs) including AUSTSWIM.  
 
The units of competency for the below courses have been superseded: 
  • Teacher of Swimming and Water Safety
  • Infant and Preschool Aquatics
  • Teacher of Aquatics Access and Inclusion

The Teach Out period for AUSTSWIM has officially concluded for candidates who attended courses prior to October 2023. Our commitment remains strong in providing you with an exceptional learning experience and ensuring ample opportunities for completing your selected course of study.

As of November 17, the deadline for you to submit your AUSTSWIM handbook for the current Sport, Aquatics, and Recreation training package units has passed.

WHAT HAPPENS NOW?

If you didn't manage to submit your handbook by Friday, 17 November 2023, don’t worry!

If you are within 12 months from when you attended your face-to-face course, you will be transitioned into the new skillset, which will enable you to gain the updated AUSTSWIM Licence.

We will be in touch in the coming weeks to let you know this process has been completed.

  • Please note if you completed the course in the past 12 months, you do not have to complete the course again, and there are no additional fees.

WHAT HAPPENS NOW?

COMPLETING YOUR TEACHER OF SWIMMING AND WATER SAFETY COURSE

To align with the latest industry standards, it is crucial for candidates to meet all additional requirements.

9 observation checklists (9 x 30min lessons) requiring sign-off from an industry representative (not an AUSTSWIM Assessor)

  • Holds a Teacher of Swimming and Water Safety Skills Set
  • Has worked in the industry for 2 or more years.

Completion of 3 additional swimming and water safety lesson plans (not to be signed off but to be submitted with the handbook).

These documents will be made available shortly in your online Streamline portal.

 

COMPLETING YOUR TEACHER OF INFANT AND PRESCHOOL AQUATICS COURSE

To align with the latest industry standards, it is crucial for candidates to meet all additional requirements.

Declaration required stating you have taught 3 lessons of water familiarisation and 3 lessons of water safety, signed by your Swim School manager/coordinator.

These documents will be made available shortly in your online Streamline portal.

 

COMPLETING YOUR TEACHER OF AQUATICS - ACCESS AND INCLUSION COURSE

To align with the latest industry standards, it is crucial for candidates to meet all additional requirements.

Declaration required stating you have taught 3 lessons of water familiarisation and 3 lessons of water safety, signed by your Swim School manager/coordinator.

These documents will be made available shortly in your online Streamline portal

AUSTSWIM Licence.

If you completed the AUSTSWIM course in 2021, you do not have the option to upskill to the new units, so all requirements must be submitted by 31st August 2023.

What are the cut-off dates?

 For all candidates enrolled in any of the above AUSTSWIM courses since 2021, you must complete and submit ALL course requirements by the below dates:
  • Attended course in 2021 - cut off date of 31 August 2023
  • Attended course in 2022 - cut off date of 30 September 2023
  • Attended course in 2023 - cut off date of 17 November 2023
After the above dates, a Statement of Attainment for the superseded units of competency will no longer be issued.
Please be assured that any updates made to the Training Package are done in compliance with the requirements under SRTOs2015 (Standards for Registered Training Organizations 2015). These changes do not affect your existing contract agreement with AUSTSWIM, and we will continue to support you throughout your learning journey.
