AUSTSWIM: Supporting Regional and Remote Communities

Swimming pools are more than just places to swim, in regional and remote areas, they are vital hubs for communities, bringing people together and supporting health, connection, and learning.

A recent Aqua Instructor course in Humpty Doo - Northern Territory, coordinated by AUSTSWIM State Coordinator Wendy Hammond and delivered by Trainer Desley Palmer, is a perfect example of how training can energise local facilities and strengthen services for the community.

Joshua and Paige Bunting from Humpty Doo Aquatic Adventures shared:

“Everyone who attended was thrilled with the content and the way it was delivered. Desley is a fantastic trainer. The feedback has been universally positive, and it’s clear the course will add significant value to our programs in the Top End.”

The course sparked momentum, with the venue expressing strong interest in hosting additional AUSTSWIM programs, a sign that professional training not only builds skills but also keeps regional and remote pools active, engaged, and ready to serve their communities.

AUSTSWIM Head of State Operations Samantha Tantum acknowledged the achievement:

“This is a testament to the coordination behind the scenes and the calibre of our trainers. When we partner well locally, the results speak for themselves.”

AUSTSWIM CEO Brad Maunsell added:

“Sustainable presence in regional and remote Australia is not built on announcements, it’s built on delivery. When facilities choose to run additional AUSTSWIM programs, that reflects confidence in consistent national standards and professional trainer capability.”

Humpty Doo Aquatic Adventures has also invested in promoting their Aqua Aerobics programs through a professionally developed educational video, a clear example of how accredited training translates into stronger engagement and vibrant community hubs.
