Units of Competency
The AUSTSWIM Aqua Exercise Instructor course (SISSS00135) includes nationally recognised units from the Sport, Fitness and Recreation Training Package.
Upon successful completion of all assessment requirements, candidates will be issued a Statement of Attainment for the following units:

| SISFFIT048 | Use anatomy and physiology knowledge to support safe and effective water exercise |
| HLTWHS001 | Participate in workplace health and safety |

Candidates must also provide a current HLTAID011 – Provide First Aid.
Course Overview
The Aqua Exercise Instructor course equips candidates with the skills, knowledge and confidence to deliver safe, engaging aqua exercise sessions to general population groups in aquatic environments.
Delivered by AUSTSWIM, this nationally recognised qualification is ideal for people who enjoy fitness, working with people and being active in the water. Aqua Exercise Instructors are in strong demand across Australia, particularly in aquatic centres, leisure facilities and community recreation programs.
The course combines flexible online learning with face-to-face training and workplace-based assessment to ensure graduates are confident, capable and job-ready. Candidates will be required to complete coursework prior to attending the workshop (refer to additional requirements).

Course Details
AUSTSWIM is committed to ensuring that all learners are enrolled in courses appropriate to their skills, capabilities and eligibility.
1. Minimum Age
-
Candidates must be 16 years of age before commencing the course.
2. Physical and Swimming Capability
-
Candidates must demonstrate a level of physical fitness and swimming ability sufficient to safely undertake and complete all required aquatic skills, practical assessments and industry training components.
3. Citizenship and Visa Eligibility
Candidates must be:
- An Australian citizen; or
- A New Zealand citizen; or
- The holder of a visa that permits participation in education and training in Australia.
AUSTSWIM is not registered on CRICOS and does not enrol students on an International Student Visa (Subclass 500).
Evidence of citizenship, residency or visa status must be provided at enrolment and will be retained in accordance with regulatory and privacy requirements.
4. Unique Student Identifier (USI)
Candidates must provide their valid Unique Student Identifier (USI) number at the time of enrolment for verification by AUSTSWIM. A USI is a reference number required by the Commonwealth statutory office (Student Identifiers Act 2014) and is obtained from the USI Registrar.

5. LLN (Language, Literacy, Numeracy) Quiz

All applicants are required to complete an LLN quiz as part of the pre-training review process. The LLN assessment is used to determine any support needs.
6. Working With Children Check (WWCC)

Candidates must hold a current Working With Children Check (WWCC) or equivalent clearance relevant to their state or territory. There may be exceptions for under 18s in some locations.

While a WWCC is not mandatory at the point of enrolment, evidence must be provided prior to commencing any industry placement, practical training or work-based component.
7. Technology and Digital Access

Candidates must have access to a computer or a suitable device with internet access to complete the required online learning and assessment activities.
- Online learning and assessment (up to 20 hours).
- Two-day face-to-face workshop.
- Practical assessment tasks.
- Workplace observation and training.
- Up to 12 months to complete all course requirements.
Delivery Mode
The course is delivered through a blended learning model comprising:
- Two (2) day face-to-face workshop incorporating structured theory sessions, practical instruction and assessment activities.
- Self-paced online eLearning including underpinning knowledge content and theory-based assessment tasks (up to 20 hours).
- Workplace training under supervision, enabling candidates to practise and demonstrate required skills in a real workplace environment.
- During the face-to-face workshop through practical demonstrations and activities.
- Throughout supervised workplace training.
- While delivering lessons under supervision.
- Via completion of the online theory assessment components.
Assessment Requirements
Candidates are assessed through a combination of:

Before attending the face-to-face workshop, candidates must:

Participate in three (3) aqua exercise classes.
