Funded Opportunities
AUSTSWIM partners with governments and industry to deliver funded and subsidised swim teacher training opportunities across Australia. Funding availability, eligibility and courses vary by state — explore the opportunities below to see what may support your pathway into a swim teaching career.
Smart and Skilled
Smart and Skilled is a funding initiative delivered by the NSW Government that provides eligible individuals living or working in New South Wales with access to government-subsidised vocational education and training (VET). The program focuses on priority skills and industries in demand, enabling participants to achieve nationally recognised qualifications and strengthen their employment prospects.
Through Smart and Skilled, eligible students may be able to undertake the AUSTSWIM swim teacher training at a substantially reduced cost, supporting entry into the aquatics and water safety industry. AUSTSWIM invites expressions of interest to complete the AUSTSWIM Teacher of Swimming and Water Safety course.
Water Safety in Schools
The Victorian Government’s Water Safety in Schools program supports eligible participants to complete free swim teacher training.
This initiative aims to increase access to qualified swim teachers delivering water safety and swimming programs to children and young people across Victoria. Places are limited and eligibility criteria apply, including location, participation requirements and employment intent.
Skills Assure
Skills Assure – Career Boost provides a government subsidy to support eligible individuals to take their career to the next level, enabling them to grow and apply their skills to existing or new job roles and to support productivity growth and workplace innovation.
Eligible participants may access reduced-fee AUSTSWIM training to support career entry, career progression or workforce re-entry in the aquatics and recreation sector. Funding availability and eligibility requirements apply and may change over time. The program delivers training to help individuals.
Active Queenslanders Industry Alliance
The Active Queenslanders Industry Alliance (AQIA) supports the growth of Queensland’s sport, recreation and fitness workforce through targeted funding initiatives.
AQIA-supported programs may offer funded or subsidised swim teacher training, depending on workforce priorities and funding rounds. Availability and eligibility criteria vary.
