AUSTSWIM is Australia’s national organisation for the Teacher of Swimming and Water Safety course.
Our vision is that every Australian will be taught swimming and water safety skills by an Accredited AUSTSWIM Teacher, enabling them to enjoy aquatic environments and activities in a safer way. The AUSTSWIM Teacher Licence is recognised as the industry standard for Swimming and Water Safety courses and is delivered and recognised in each state and territory of Australia and many countries overseas.
The AUSTSWIM Teacher Licence is recognised by the industry as the minimum requirement to be a Swimming and Water Safety teacher.
An AUSTSWIM Accreditation is valid for three years and must be renewed prior to the expiry date to remain valid. Your expiry date can be found on your AUSTSWIM Teacher Licence.
To renew your AUSTSWIM Teacher Licence complete the following steps:
AUSTSWIM provides teachers with a Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) which recognises qualifications and statements of attainment as a pathway for accreditation and issue of an AUSTSWIM Licence – Teacher of Swimming and Water Safety.
Sometimes life changes and you might find yourself with an expired AUSTSWIM licence but want to return to the career you are passionate about – teaching others to be strong swimmers and improving water safety in your community. Thankfully, AUSTSWIM makes it simple to regain your accreditation if your licence has been expired for three or more years.
AUSTSWIM’s Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) provides a pathway for you to become an AUSTSWIM Licenced Teacher again, regardless of which qualification you previously completed. The process detailed on this page is applicable for:
When you have built up skills throughout your previous study and career, you deserve to have them recognised when striving for a new qualification – or wanting to renew an old one. The Recognition of Prior Learning process means that you won’t have to repeat your entire qualification to become an AUSTSWIM Teacher again.
The Australian Qualification Framework (AQF) regulates education in Australia and ensures that you are entitled to have your previous experience, training and skills recognised when studying for a new qualification.
The policies and procedures of each Registered Training Organisation (RTO) will be different when it comes to assessing your eligibility for RPL, but the basis of having your past training and skills be acknowledged remains the same. At AUSTSWIM, we provide RPL as a legitimate and fast-tracked pathway for you to regain your accreditation and be issued an AUSTSWIM Teacher of Swimming and Water Safety Licence, allowing you to return to the work that you love.

Eligibility for RPL requires candidates to:
