Aquatic Industry
Australia’s aquatic industry plays a vital role in community safety, health and wellbeing. From learn-to-swim and water safety education to fitness, rehabilitation and community participation, aquatic programs support millions of Australians every year to be active, confident and safe in and around water.
The industry is a significant employer and offers diverse and meaningful career paths across swimming and water safety education, lifeguarding, customer service and facility operations. According to the National Aquatic Industry Workforce Report 2025, the sector is estimated to employ around 85,000 people nationally, with swimming and water safety teachers making up approximately one-third of this workforce, followed by lifeguards and customer service roles.
As Australia’s most trusted swimming and water safety teacher training organisation, AUSTSWIM supports the aquatic industry through education, licensing, professional development and evidence-based guidance.
