Licence Renewals

Maintaining your AUSTSWIM licence confirms that your skills, knowledge and teaching practice remain current and aligned with professional standards in aquatic education. This page explains when you need to renew your licence, what is required, and how to complete the renewal process.

The AUSTSWIM Licence must be renewed every three years from the date of issue.

It is your responsibility to ensure your licence is renewed before it expires in order to remain current as an AUSTSWIM-licensed teacher.

Licence renewal requirements include:

  • Completion of approved professional development – 10 hours
  • Evidence of recent teaching practice – 20 hours
  • Current CPR & WWCC
  • Payment of the applicable renewal fee

Specific requirements will be outlined during the renewal process

RENEWAL PRICE $275

  • This covers 3 years of AUSTSWIM Teacher registration, 3 years of personal teacher insurance cover, administration and processing fees, and a new digital licence.

LATE FEES

  • $50 – late fee incurred if license has expired up to 3 months.
  • $100 - late fee incurred if license has expired for longer than 3 months and less than 12 months.

If your AUSTSWIM Teacher Licence has been expired for longer than 12 months – you will be required to complete one of the following:

  • Enrol in online Industry Upskill Training (expired no longer than 3 years)
  • Apply for Recognised Prior Learning (RPL). Must have current documentation (3 years or less)
  • Re-enrol and complete the AUSTSWIM Teacher of Swimming and Water Safety (TSW) course.

Professional development and renewal

A minimum of 10 hours of Professional Development (PD) is required to renew your AUSTSWIM licence. PD refers to any formal or informal training you have undertaken that develops your knowledge and skills as a swimming and water safety teacher. This may include industry PD such as conferences or events, online learning, and extension courses.
