Our Governance Structure

AUSTSWIM is a not-for-profit organisation registered with the Australian Charities and Not-for-profits Commission (ACNC).
AUSTSWIM’s objects (purpose) and governance structure is defined in its constitution which is guided by the Corporations Act 2001.
The constitution is supported by a number of by-laws and terms of references that facilitate its effective operation.

 

The Board

Team AUSTSWIM is overseen and led by a Chairperson and Board of Directors who are responsible for setting the organisation's strategic direction and are supported by a leadership team responsible for the operational delivery of the strategy.

 

Melinda CroleMelinda Crole – Chairperson

Bachelor of Science (Biotechnology), Graduate Certificate in Management, Diploma of Social Science, Graduate and member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors
 
Melinda is the CEO Australia for Junior Adventures Group - an industry-leading provider of Outside School Hours Care, providing care for over 30,000 Australian children each week. With 25 years' executive experience in national and global community-focused service provision, Melinda has spent most of her career focused on developing positive outcomes for children, young people, and local communities.
 
She is well known by the federal government and industry partners through her participation in both government and industry advisory groups in Early Childhood Education and Care, Redress, and Child Safety. 
 

Ian FullagarIan Fullagar – Board Member

Appointed 3 December 2020

Bachelors of Arts and Law, Master of Law
 
Ian has held many positions on government, commercial and not-for profit boards both as a director and as company secretary. He has also lectured at a number of universities in various sports law and sports governance related subjects. Ian is a founding member of the Australian and New Zealand Sports Law Association (ANZSLA) and was National Secretary from 1990- 1997. He is now a life member of ANZSLA and is also a Vincent Fairfax Fellow.

 

 

Justin ScarrJustin Scarr – Board Member

Bachelor of Education, Master of Business Administration

Local government, education departments, teachers and consumers can be confident that AUSTSWIM-trained and accredited educators meet the highest standards to foster safer aquatic participation.

The AUSTSWIM Student Support Office provides personalised assistance to all candidates during any stage of their student journey. This service ensures that student academic, engagement and wellbeing needs are identified early and supported effectively, enabling AUSTSWIM students to stay on track and confident as they progress through their course.
 

What We Do

Our Student Support Office team offers targeted and comprehensive guidance to students who may benefit from additional support beyond standard course delivery. This includes but is not limited to:
  • 1 on 1 support meetings that students can book at their convenience
  • Clarification and explanations of course content
  • Assistance with academic progress and completion of course requirements
  • Discussions to assist with coursework, completion expectations and assessments
  • Support with accessibility, individual learning and wellbeing needs
  • Connections to relevant AUSTSWIM or external support resources
This proactive approach to candidate learning aims to promote a positive student experience, improve course completion and ensures AUSTSWIM consistently delivers high-quality training courses.
 

Our Purpose

The AUSTSWIM Student Support Office is dedicated to empowering all students through proactive, personalised support guiding candidates to successful completion of their training. The Student Support Office plays an essential role in:
  • Identifying academic engagement challenges early
  • Removing barriers to learning and improving student outcomes
  • Improving course design and delivery based on student learning needs
  • Promoting inclusive, equitable access for all students of all backgrounds
  • Supporting continuous improvement across all AUSTSWIM courses

By understanding the challenges students face, AUSTSWIM is primed to better support candidates’ success. The Student Support Office’s goal is to ensure every student has the resources, assistance and confidence needed to successfully complete their AUSTSWIM course.
