2026 Victorian Joint Trainer Workshop - Setting the Benchmark for Quality and Consistency
Around 49 trainers and sector leaders from AUSTSWIM, Life Saving Victoria and Swim Australia came together for the 2026 Victorian Joint Trainer Workshop, united by a shared commitment to strengthening swim teacher education across Victoria.
Opening the workshop, AUSTSWIM CEO Brad Maunsell reinforced why collaboration at the trainer level matters:
“Days like this matter. Not because of logos. Not because of organisational boundaries. But because of the role you play.”
At AUSTSWIM, we recognise that trainers are more than course facilitators.
They are custodians of quality.
They uphold the integrity of our standards.
They influence credibility across the entire swimming and water safety workforce.
When those responsible for trainer education align expectations and moderate practice collectively, the impact is clear:
- Consistency strengthens
- Quality lifts
- Safety outcomes improve
The program focused on regulatory standards, trainer accountability, facilitation practice, practical assessment integrity, moderation processes, licensing and funding alignment, all critical elements in maintaining a high-performing, nationally respected training system.
Importantly, the conversation extended beyond compliance.
“Vocational currency keeps you compliant. Professional currency keeps you credible. Credibility is what sustains an industry,” Mr Maunsell said.
Thank you to Julia Wood, AUSTSWIM Head of Training & Development, for facilitating the workshop with clarity and professionalism, and to all presenters who contributed to a practical, standards-driven program.
In closing, Mr Maunsell reaffirmed AUSTSWIM’s leadership role in strengthening the sector:
“Standards do not rise by accident. They rise because leaders choose to lift them. If we are serious about drowning prevention and serious about workforce credibility, then alignment at trainer level is non-negotiable.”
“At AUSTSWIM, we will continue to lead conversations that strengthen the system - not just participate in them.”
Because safer communities start with stronger educators — and stronger educators start with aligned, high-quality trainers
