AUSTSWIM and Life Saving Victoria have recently announced their latest collaboration as part of their newly developed partnership. The initiative has seen the development and release of a new in-service training professional development package specifically designed for swim teachers. This innovative program represents a significant step forward in ensuring high standards of swim teaching across the industry.
The in-service program will be available to aquatic facilities and learn to swim schools in flexible delivery formats, intended to support year-round and seasonal operation. Content is aligned to recognised industry standards, techniques, emerging trends and best practice.
Building on the successful Pool Lifeguard model of in-service training that Life Saving Victoria has delivered historically, this new initiative will support and uplift the professional development, skills, and knowledge of swim teachers. By aligning training practices with recognised industry best practice, the program will ensure that swim teachers are well-equipped to provide the highest level of instruction to their students and are more supported and empowered in the workplace.
This collaboration is a testament to the commitment of both Life Saving Victoria and AUSTSWIM to the ongoing professional development of swim teachers. Swim teachers play a critical role in drowning prevention and water safety across all communities.
Uptake of this industry leading professional development will signify a significant contribution to swim teachers meeting their professional development obligations and assist their licence renewal process, ensuring they remain at the forefront of best practices.
On announcing the initiative AUSTSWIM CEO Brad Maunsell said “The joint effort between Life Saving Victoria and AUSTSWIM highlights the importance of collaboration and continuous improvement within the swim teaching industry. With a focus on recognised industry standards and genuine best practice, this training program will make a significant impact on the quality of swim instruction across the sector.”
Life Saving Victoria CEO Cath Greaves added “LSV, in partnership with AUSTSWIM, is proud to lead the way in swim teacher education, by supporting teachers to have the skills and knowledge needed to provide safe and effective swim lessons and make a lasting contribution to drowning prevention efforts.”
