Swim Teacher Wellbeing Matters: practical strategies for voice, hearing, body and mind
- March 18, 2026
AUSTSWIM’s latest Swim School Network webinar put the spotlight on an important topic for the aquatic industry: the wellbeing of swim teachers.
Hosted by AUSTSWIM CEO Brad Maunsell and Swim School Network Coordinator Michaela Waaka, the exclusive member webinar featured AUSTSWIM Ambassador Brooke Hanson OLY and AUSTSWIM Trainer, speech therapist and audiologist Vija Heath.
Together, they shared practical strategies to help swim teachers protect their voice, hearing, body and mindset in demanding aquatic environments.
From managing noise and sensory load on pool deck, to reducing vocal strain, preventing hearing issues, building micro recovery breaks into the day, and creating positive team cultures, the session reinforced a clear message: swim teacher wellbeing matters.
As Brooke Hanson reminded attendees, swim teachers do far more than teach swimming. They help prevent drowning, build confidence, support learners of all ages and abilities, and create positive relationships with water that can last a lifetime.
The session also encouraged swim schools and aquatic leaders to play an active role in supporting teacher wellbeing through strong teamwork, practical workplace strategies and a culture where staff feel seen, valued and supported.
