Course Overview

Creating a child-safe aquatic environment takes more than awareness. It requires clear systems, confident people and child-safe practices that are understood and applied every day.

Creating Child Safe Swim Schools is practical online professional development designed specifically for swim schools, aquatic centres and pool environments.

Developed by AUSTSWIM Lead Safeguarding Advisor Phil Doorgachurn, the course explores the Child Safe Standards and shows how they can be applied across leadership, staff practice, complaints, recruitment, physical and online environments, policies and everyday operations.

Why this matters:

Across most Australian states and territories, Child Safe Standards are mandatory and fully enforceable. Aquatic environments also present particular safeguarding considerations, from change rooms and physical instruction to one-on-one lessons, photography and online communication.

This course takes the Standards into that aquatic context, helping participants move from understanding what child safe practice requires to applying it in everyday situations.

This course is ideal for:

  • Swim teachers
  • Swim school owners and operators
  • Aquatic centre managers and supervisors
  • Child Safe Officers and safeguarding leads
  • Staff responsible for:
    • Recruitment
    • Induction
    • Complaints
    • Policy
    • Risk management
