Units of Competency

The AUSTSWIM Teach Water Familiarisation & Water Safety Skills course contains two units of competency which are nationally recognised from the Sport, Fitness and Recreation Training Package.

Upon successful completion of all assessment requirements, candidates will be issued a Statement of Attainment for:

SISCAQU024 Teach water familiarisation, buoyancy, and mobility skills 
SISCAQU025 Teach water safety and survival skills 

Course Overview

This course covers the prerequisite units of competency required to enrol in the AUSTSWIM Teacher of Infant and Preschool Aquatics course or the Teacher of Aquatics, Access and Inclusion course.

Who this course is for :

  • This course is designed for existing swim teachers who do not hold the most recent Teacher of Swimming and Water Safety skillset - SISSS00132.
  •  Teachers will be required to supply evidence of their current swimming and water safety accreditation (Statement of Attainment).

Course Details

AUSTSWIM is committed to ensuring that all learners are enrolled in courses that are appropriate to their skills, capabilities and eligibility.

1. Have completed a Teacher of Swimming and Water Safety course prior to Dec 2024 (when training package changed and new Skillset SISSS00132 was introduced)

  • Candidates will be required to provide evidence of the pre-requisite units (Statement of Attainment).

2. Citizenship and Visa Eligibility

Candidates must be:

  • An Australian citizen; or
  • A New Zealand citizen; or
  • The holder of a visa that permits participation in education and training in Australia. Individuals on a VISA must check their visa conditions before enrolling. Start a VISA query here.

AUSTSWIM is not a registered CRICOS provider and does not enrol students on an International Student Visa (Subclass 500).

Evidence of citizenship, residency or visa status must be provided at enrolment and will be retained in accordance with regulatory and privacy requirements.

3. Unique Student Identifier (USI)

  • Candidates must provide their valid Unique Student Identifier (USI) number at the time of enrolment for verification by AUSTSWIM. A USI is a reference number required by the Commonwealth statutory office (Student Identifiers Act 2014) and is obtained from the USI Registrar.

4. Technology and Digital Access

  • Candidates must have access to a computer or a suitable device with internet access to complete the required online learning and assessment activities.
  • There is no face-to-face component with this course. 
  • TWFWSS is an online course with eLearning modules and assessment tasks.
  • Teachers must download the course Candidate Handbook to be completed in the industry. 
  • Teachers have 12 months from enrolment to complete all course requirements.
