Course Details
AUSTSWIM is committed to ensuring that all learners are enrolled in courses that are appropriate to their skills, capabilities and eligibility.
1. Minimum Age
Candidates must be 16 years of age before commencing the course
2. Technology and Digital Access
Candidates must have access to a computer or suitable device with internet access to complete the required online learning and assessment activities.
The course is delivered through a blended learning model comprising:
- One day face-to-face workshop incorporating structured theory sessions, practical instruction and assessment activities
- Self-paced online eLearning including underpinning knowledge content and theory-based assessment tasks (approximately 2 hours)
- Workplace training under supervision, enabling candidates to practise and demonstrate required skills in a real workplace environment
Assessment Requirements
Candidates are assessed through a combination of:
- During the face-to-face workshop through practical demonstration and activities
- Throughout supervised workplace training
- While delivering lessons under supervision
- Via completion of the online theory assessment components
Candidates must satisfactorily complete all assessment requirements to be deemed competent.
Candidates have 12 months to complete their course unless otherwise stated.
Topics include:
- A journey through aquatic participation
- Safety and legal issues
- Communication and perception
- Plan, deliver and review
- Skills for movement through the water
To receive your AUSTSWIM Accreditation, the following additional requirements need to be submitted:
- Completed Teacher Declaration: agree to abide by the AUSTSWIM Code of Conduct.
- Completed brief online course evaluation.
- Evidence of holding a current (CPR – Perform Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation) statement of attainment.
- An endorsed photo for AUSTSWIM Teacher Licence.
