Swimming NZ and AUSTSWIM are today announcing changes to the delivery of swim teacher education in New Zealand

  • April 9, 2026

Swimming NZ is today announcing that after seven years of delivering AUSTSWIM courses, it will end its partnership with AUSTSWIM as the organisation changes its strategic focus in the water safety and education space from delivery to advocacy.

Swimming NZ CEO, Steve Johns, said that the time was right to move away from the delivery of swim teacher education, confident in the knowledge that AUSTSWIM courses will continue to be delivered in New Zealand via the Australian office.

Johns said that he was grateful for the support and partnership over the past seven years with AUSTSWIM and wished them all the very best for their continued presence in New Zealand.

Brad Maunsell, CEO of AUSTSWIM, said "we sincerely thank Steve, Karen and the wider Swimming New Zealand team for the strength of the relationship and their support of the AUSTSWIM program in New Zealand over the past seven years.

Our relationship with Swimming New Zealand remains strong, and we appreciate their continued support of AUSTSWIM and the broader swim teacher education pathway in New Zealand.

Importantly, there will be no change for current AUSTSWIM qualified teachers and candidates in New Zealand, and only minimal operational changes for Trainers and Presenters delivering the AUSTSWIM program locally.

AUSTSWIM will be in direct contact with all qualified teachers, candidates, trainers, presenters and Swimming New Zealand Swim School Recognition participants over the coming weeks to ensure a smooth transition and provide any support required.”
