SISSS00132 - Teacher of Swimming and Water Safety

AUSTSWIM is offering fully funded TSW training under Smart and Skilled NSW funding for the general public as well as swim centre staff members in NSW. So take this opportunity to get yourself, or your staff qualified as swim teachers!

Eligibility for Candidates

To be eligible for Smart and Skilled funding, candidates must meet the below criteria.
  • 16 years or older, and
  • No longer at school, and
  • An Australian citizen, permanent resident, humanitarian visa holder, or New Zealand citizen, and
  • Living or working in NSW, or
  • An Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander student who does not live or work in NSW but lives in specific defined interstate NSW border areas

Training deadline - must submit all the requirements no later than three (3) months after your workshop date.

Course Details

Please register your interest in attending a workshop from the following list. You will have an opportunity to enrol with AUSTSWIM to undertake a government-subsidised short course depending on your eligibility.

Training deadline - all requirements must be submitted no later than three (3) months after your workshop date.
Eg. If you attended your workshop on the 5th and 6th of October 2023, then you have until January 6th 2024, to submit your requirements.

Please keep in mind that submitting an application does not automatically guarantee your spot in the course. The final selection will be based on eligibility criteria and available spaces.

Course Description
This course is aimed at people entering the aquatics and community recreation industry. If you have a love for swimming, physical activity, learning and children – then this course is your entry point into the aquatics and community recreation industry.
 
Units
  • SISCAQU020 - Perform water rescues

  • SISCAQU023 - Plan swimming lessons
  • SISCAQU024 - Teach water familiarisation, buoyancy and mobility skills
  • SISCAQU025 -  Teach water safety and survival skills
  • SISCAQU026 - Teach swimming strokes
Delivery Strategy
This interactive course is delivered in a blended format, consisting of theory and practical components. It requires attendance at a face-to-face training session over two full days and the successful completion of an online interactive component. Candidates are also required to complete supervised industry training in a swim teaching environment in a range of conditions.
 
The course consists of theory and practical components:
  • Theory component – topics may be offered through classroom attendance or selected topics via AUSTSWIM’s e-learning centre.
  • Practical component – involves swimming activities that may be carried out in shallow or deep water.

National Recognition
On successfully completing the training and assessment, the candidate will be issued a Statement of Attainment, issuing them the units of competency required for you to become a Swim Teacher along with a 3-year AUSTSWIM licence which is recognised throughout Australia.
 
Once the candidates have completed the course, they will be issued their licence based on a valid WWWC and CPR. Not only are AUSTSWIM offering a free TSW course, but we are also throwing in a 3-year licence at no cost to the candidates. This training is subsidised by the NSW Government, as part of the Smart and Skilled program. Terms and conditions will apply.

Information for Pool Operators
If you would like to book a TSW course at your venue, please contact us directly at info@austswim.com.au, or call us on 1300 885 666. Our team will happily work with you in setting up a course. A minimum of 21 days' notice to AUSTSWIM and a Letter of Support stating how many candidates you want to employ from this funded opportunity are both required. Courses available under this initiative are titled 'Teacher of Swimming and Water Safety SAS' in the course finder. Any course is to be completed by 30th March 2024 with requirements from candidates submitted within three (3) months of this date.
