For applications to be considered, applicants need to have the endorsement of their workplace or – if self-employed – a referee must be provided. Referees may be contacted as part of the approval process.
Applicants should note that each workplace/swim centre can self-manage how the supervised training experience and competency assessment process is conducted within their centre. Centres may appoint AUSTSWIM assessors as deemed appropriate to their specific conditions. Obtaining the status of AUSTSWIM assessor through the online module does not guarantee that you will be able to perform this role within the workplace.
Upon successful completion of the online module, AUSTSWIM assessors will receive an updated AUSTSWIM Teacher Licence.
Please note that all AUSTSWIM assessors must provide AUSTSWIM with a current Working with Children Check (WWCC). Please follow the link to find the individual requirements for your state/territory.
Candidates will be able to search for swim centres that have an AUSTSWIM assessor via the swim centre locator. Find an AUSTSWIM Recognised Swim Centre in your area.
A Training Supervisor is an AUSTSWIM Teacher that is responsible for supervising trainee teachers while they develop their skills as a swimming and water safety teacher. The training supervisor must be appropriately licensed for the type of teaching that is being performed. However, they do not need to be qualified as an AUSTSWIM assessor.
An AUSTSWIM Assessor is responsible for the sign-off of a trainee teacher’s competency. Assessors are only eligible to assess competency for the range of licences that they currently hold (for example, if you don’t hold an Infant & Preschool extension licence then you will not be eligible to assess a candidate undertaking this licence).
