The Teacher of Swimming and Water Safety course contains units of competency which are nationally recognised from the Sport, Fitness and Recreation Training package. Upon successful completion of all assessment requirements, candidates will be issued a Statement of Attainment for the following units:
SISCAQU008 Instruct water familiarisation, buoyancy and mobility skills
SISCAQU009 Instruct water safety and survival skills
SISCAQU010 Instruct swimming strokes
SISCAQU002 Perform basic water rescues

On 10th of September 2019 the National Vocational Education and Training (VET) Register was updated whereby the unit of competency SISCCRO302A Apply legal and ethical instructional skills was deleted from the SIS Sport, Fitness and Recreation Training Packages. AUSTSWIM removed this unit from the Swimming and Water Safety (TSW) course with immediate effect as of 10th of September 2019.
However, any candidate who commenced their course prior to the 9th of September 2019 and who successfully completes their course of study and achieves a competent result by the 9th of September 2020 will still be issued this unit of competency on the Statement of Attainment. From the 10th of September 2020 the unit SISCCRO302A Apply legal and ethical instructional skills will no longer be able to be awarded as outlined by the National VET Register.
As AUSTSWIM considers the learning outcomes from this unit include important skills needed in the role of a swim teacher in terms of safety and child protection; AUSTSWIM will continue to deliver the material to not cause any detriment to the individual teacher or the level of skill of our teachers in industry. The duration and outcomes of this course will not change. Our commitment remains as always, to the best possible level of training, assessment and accreditation of aquatic education in Australasia
